Molly Shannon Opens Up About Motherhood

Actress, comedienne, and mom Molly Shannon is one of our favorite talents. Her hilarious Saturday Night Live performances (such as her "Superstar" / Mary Katherine Gallagher role) made her a televlsion star before she broke into film with roles in a number of movies like Shallow Hal and Marie Antoinette. Molly lives in California with her partner Fritz Chesnut and their two children, Stella, 4, and Nolan, 3. Molly recently sat down with Cookie magazine and discussed life as a mom.

On what her children do to make her laugh: "My daughter likes to be Fancy Nancy. The other day she spilled hot chocolate on herself and said, "Oh no, now I am not fancy." Stuff like that makes me laugh. My son says "pusz" instead of saying "because," which is pretty funny."

On her favorite family ritual: "I like hanging out at home and having Sunday dinner with the family and relaxing."

On her most frazzled mom moment: "A while ago, I was flying into LAX with my two kids. While I was at the baggage claim, I was trying to balance the stroller with both of them in it and carry the bags, and there was just a lot going on. The stroller tipped over and the kids screamed, just because they were scared. But they were fine. This kind of thing happens to all moms, but it was one of those moments when some photographers were around. You just want to say, "Not now. I am a mom, not a celebrity.""

On what parenting issue she and Fritz disagree most about: "Probably about giving my kids sweet treats. I like to give them, but he would prefer I didn't."

On what her parenting role is - good cop or bad cop: "Hmmm. We are pretty equal, but I guess I am the good cop."

On what she wishes she had done before having children: "Nothing. I feel like I did everything I wanted to do."

On what a typical Saturday morning in like in the house: "I wake up around 6:00 or 6:30 a.m. and make egg-white omelets and toast. We usually watch cartoons, and I read the newspaper. We also sometimes go to the park. But if we do, I have to take my allergy medication, Zyrtec, so I don't have an allergy attack."

On what her mom was most right about: "My mom died when I was very young, but I do remember that when I was young I worried about making friends. And she told me that she had a feeling that I wouldn't have a problem making friends in the future. And I think she was right."

On her guiltiest pleasure: "I always get whipped cream on my coffee during the Christmas holiday season."

On her ideal getaway: "Anywhere tropical."

On her favorite clothing item: "Black Diesel jeans with zipper pockets."

On her current reading material: "How to Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk by Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish (Collins)."

On if she prefers to cook at home or eat takeout: "Cook at home."
