Gwyneth Paltrow Suffered From Post-Partum Depression

In the May 2008 issue of Vogue, Gwyneth Paltrow reveals that she suffered from post-partum depression after son Moses, 2, was born.

“I didn’t know I had it until after it was over," the actress, 35, says. "I just didn’t know what was wrong with me. I felt really out of my body," Paltrow says after giving birth. "I felt really disconnected. I felt really down ... I felt pessimistic.”

Looking back now, she thinks her depression may have started after cutting back on pre-baby treatments, one of them being acupuncture.

Gwyneth is mommy to Apple, 3 1/2, and Moses, 2, who just celebrated his 2nd birthday with friends in NYC.

Up to 70% of women experience 'the baby blues' following childbirth. More serious depression occurs in 10-20%. I remember feeling very 'weepy' for several weeks after my daughter was born and also rather embarassed about it. Whilst there is much focus on the physical health of mother and child there appears to be a dearth of appropriate support for women to process their emotions following childbirth.
