Madonna Is One Step Closer To Adopting David

The biological father of the Malawian child that Madonna plans to adopt said on Monday that he supports her case, but wants her to bring his biological child home for visits.

Madge is expected to appear in a Malawian court on Thursday for what will be a final ruling on whether she can adopt Baby David Banda. The legendary pop diva began adoption proceedings in 2006 and David has been living in London with Madonna, her husband Guy Ritchie, Madonna’s daughter Lourdes and their son Rocco. Madonna and Guy have faced controversy in the adoption proceedings for Baby David as critics have accused the government of not allowing non-residents from adopting children in Malawi – a country ravaged by AIDS, leaving more than one million orphans. Regardless of these oppressive laws, Malawi’s government has recommended that its High Court approve Madonna’s adoptive proceedings.

David’s biological father, Yohane Banda, stated on Monday:

“I have no problem with the government’s recommendation to allow Madonna to get the child. This is what I wanted, that Madonna should keep the child.”

Madonna took David into her care when he was 13 months old after his father had placed him in an orphanage following the death of his wife. Banda said he hopes to see David when Madonna returns to Malawi with his biological son:

“If she comes with the child … we expect to be told that the child is here and we are allowed to see him.” [He added if he can’t see him this time, he hopes to see him every few years]“We had agreed initially that when the child is taken, she should bring him at least once in every three to four years so that we should see how he is developing.”
