Jessica Alba Covers Elle Magazine

Jessica Alba graces the cover of Elle magazine in the March 2009 issue. Inside she opens up about about labor, adjusting to motherhood, her slimming secret, and separation anxiety. Here’s a sampling:

On giving birth: “Contractions aren’t that bad. If you’ve ever had bad cramps? That’s what they’re like. But that moment when they put the baby on your chest – that’s deep. It’s a deep experience.”

On getting back into shape so quickly after giving birth: “I did it for the Campari job. [The workouts] were horrible. I cried. And I haven’t worked out since.”

Find out how Jessica slimmed down after giving birth…

On her secret to looking slim after giving birth: “I wore a girdle. Eight weeks after my girlfriend had her baby, you could see her six-pack. She told me to put an elastic band around my waist – any kind of band or girdle works. She was like, “I slept in it.” I didn’t recover as fast as she did. I don’t have a six-pack – that’s just not my body at all.”

On naming her daughter Honor: “It’s weird; your name can really shape who you are. When I was born, my name was supposed to be Farrah Dawn. My mother looked like Farrah Fawcett, so she thought her daughter would, too. When I came out dark, my father had to scratch it off the birth certificate.”

On being away from Honor:” This is the first time I’ve been away from her. It’s been six days. It sucks; it’s the worst thing ever. But we Skype, so I can see her on video. The worst is when you can see her little chubby hands grab the screen, and I’m not there. [She pauses, her eyes welling up, then laughs as she wipes the tears away.] That’s a new thing—I never cried before. Just being a mother is making me a big, weepy mess.”

On having an exotic look: “Anyone who’s part of pop culture is going to be sensationalized and spun into something, some one-liner. Also, there aren’t many other stars, besides Halle Berry and Jennifer Lopez, who most people in the world can related to. We look like people of the world – I can kind of mix in with girls in Asia, South America, Europe.”

Contractions aren’t that bad?? Are you kidding me? The start of your labor yea it feels like cramps and aren’t bad…maybe she got an epidural before it got to bad in which case she does not know what a foreal contraction feels like. I realize everyones labor is different and some have easy fast ones. For most women labor and contractions are the worst pain they’ve ever felt.

I agree with you Cassie! She must have had quite the epidural because even the person who experienced the easiest of births will agree it hurts. A lot.

Yeah , her generalizing comments about contractions are pretty lame and reading this interview it’s no wonder she is ridiculed by so many. For example, “I can kind of mix in with girls in Asia, South America, Europe.” Has she ever been to Europe or Asia? She looks like a full blooded Latina and having some former statements from her in mind regarding her origins I don’t know why she can’t embrace that fact.

I was appalled…contractions aren’t so bad????? WHAT??????? Apparently she had a whole natural birth so, I guess she’s one of the lucky few….But I can’t believe she said that….

Everytime she opens her mouth I cringe. Her comments keep getting stupider and stupider! She strikes me as someone who would want to be pumped full of drugs to give birth so it doesn’t surprise me that she said it “wasn’t that bad”. Good for you if your labor was a breeze but it certainly isn’t for everyone. I agree with everyone above, I hate how she generalizes everything. She’s so vain! My dear, you can’t fit in with every ethnicity, so just be proud of being Latina!! Oh and stop making stupid comments! :-)

Every time she opens her mouth something idiotic pops out…I wish she would just stop talking or go away. She sounds like such a moron most of the time. That is also some superior photoshopping on that Elle cover.

UH i think you guys sound foolish….She is talking about HER labor experience and maybe it wasnt so bad (i think she did the hypnobirth which is supposed to make the process less painful). Im sure she realizes she only knows what contractions feel like to her…

Also she probably has been to Europe and Asia…Shes rich…I can def see her mixing in with some girls in burma or brazil, she said nothing of being a spitting image
