M.I.A’s Son’s Name – Ikhyd Not Ickitt

Although it was previously announced to be Ickitt, M.I.A’s newborn son’s name has now been revealed as Ikhyd.

According to the baby’s birth certificate, Mathangi Maya Arulpragasam officially named her son Ikhyd Edgar Arular Bronfman.

The official certificate also revealed another interesting fact. M.I.A’s birth date is listed as July 18, 1975 which makes her real age 33 (not 31 as previously believed).

It has just been announced that Ikhyd’s mom, in her first major appearance following her performance at the 2009 Grammy Awards (pictured above on her due date), has been booked for the second night of the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival on April 18.

So what do you think? Is Ikhyd better than Ickitt?

This one is better. If it is an existing name it’s ok, hope it’s not one of those made up names to be “unique” or “original”…..

Is it an ethnic name? If so, I wonder what it means. I wonder how you pronounce it.

Arulpragasam is a Central Asian (Indian) name so no surprise she will name the kid based on her ethnicity.

I think it’s better than Ickitt even though the names are pretty similar.

I don’t like any of them. I can’t even say those names. But whatever if she likes it.

She’s Sri Lankan, so obviously she’s going to give her son a name based on her own culture and ethnicity. I doubt she’s about to name him Bob or Jim. It’s her child so who cares? If you don’t like the same then don’t name your son Ihkyd. I think it’s pretty, and it probably means something to M.I.A.
