Emma Thompson Celebrates Adopted Son's Graduation

Actress Emma Thompson was beaming with pride this week as she watched her adopted son Tindyebewa Agaba graduate from Exeter University with a degree in politics.

Tindy, who was orphaned after his father died of AIDS and his mother went missing, fled Rwanda during the genocide and ended up, alone and homeless, in London. He met the Stranger Than Fiction star at a Christmas party for the Refugee Council in 2003, when he was 16 years old.

"He's such a lovely, enchanting boy so I said, 'Come and spend Christmas with us'. And he came for half the day," Emma recalls. "Slowly, he became a sort of permanent fixture."

Emma and her husband Greg Wise "informally adopted" him and he was soon living with them and their young daughter Gaia.

Now 22, Tindy said upon receiving his degree that he has "been from hell to heaven." He plans to pursue a career as a human rights lawyer.
