Ana Ortiz Balances Work & Baby

Ugly Betty star Ana Ortiz spoke with PEOPLE at the Fitness Mind, Body, Spirit Games in New York City last week. The actress who was back on the set with baby in tow, just three weeks after giving birth, dished on everything from breast pumps to fashion week.

“She’s [3-month-old Paloma] like a little Ugly Betty mascot.” “Everybody is constantly popping into my room to pick her up or talk to her. She has this whole other family at [the show], and it’s great.”

When it comes to help there’s no shortage, both grandmothers are on the set to help out while the actress films takes.

The nursing mom takes frequent breaks during work to feed the baby. Ortiz says the one on-set item she can’t live without – a breast pump! “That’s a horrible thing to say, but besides my mother, it’s a must-have because if you’ve got a boob full of milk, you’ve got to get it done,” she said with a laugh.

Her co-stars have taken note of Ortiz’s expanding bosom as the scenes progress. “The team will be, like, ‘Uh, Ana, do you need a break?’ And I’ll be like, ‘What are you guys looking at?!’ ”

Ortiz says she appreciates the family-friendly environment created by producer Salma Hayek, who has a daughter of her own, Valentina. “I think she set the bar,” Ortiz notes.

“It’s fashion week … I used to want to go to this show and do everything,” says the actress. “But this year, I want to stay home with my baby and my husband and hang out. It’s not better or more mature, just a different perspective for me. And I really like it.”

Ortiz’s husband is musician Noah Lebenzon.
