Pregnant Padma Lakshmi Butters Her Belly

Mom-to-be Padma Lakshmi says she’s broken out the body butter to help ease the discomfort caused by her growing baby bump.

“One thing that happens when you’re pregnant is that as your stomach starts to stretch [and] it itches! So I have to keep my belly really lubricated,” the 39-year-old Top Chef host reveals. “Every morning, there’s a buttering ceremony after I get out of the shower. It’s really like basting a turkey with body butter.”

She adds that the “buttering ceremony” has become a team effort, saying, “Before, my housekeeper was helping me because I can’t bend over to do my feet. Now my mom’s here and she’s been buttering up my tummy.”

Padma isn’t worried at all about her expanding shape, though – in fact, she says she’s happy to put her voracious appetite to good use!

“Many people could say I ate for two before I was pregnant. It’s just that my body is catching up with my appetite now,” she says, adding, “I am as omnivorous as it’s possible to be. I always say there’s nothing I won’t eat and nothing I won’t wear. Am I gonna be having a Scotch on the rocks? No. But I never did that anyway.”

Padma, who is due in the spring, is seen here at last night’s NY screening of the film Good Hair.

Well, any cream won’t help for this, but what does help against stretch marks though, is getting pregnant when you’r over 30. And that’s what she did… A very experienced midwife that I know told me that she has rarely seen women over their 30s having stretch marks. She compared it with a fresh apple you bite in, as pposed to an older apple… The fresh apple’s skin breaks easier!
