Not one for the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, actress Jennifer Connelly says she’s happiest at home in Brooklyn with her husband Paul Bettany and kids Kai, 12, and Stellan, 6.
“The family is the most important thing to me,” the 38-year-old Creation star tells The Daily Mirror. “Becoming a mother has made all the difference in terms of learning to take more responsibility for myself and my life. Parenthood changed the way I do everything.”
It’s been a difficult time for Jennifer, who just recently returned to work after taking some time off to spend with her family after her father passed away last year.
“I lost my dad who I was very close to and who lived with us. So I went through a really hard time at the end of last year. I’ve been trying to be very healthy, eat well and get lots of fresh air and sunshine. I’ve had a long time just hanging out at home looking after my kids and being with Paul. We’ve had the whole summer off so I’ve had lots of time in the mountains, hiking in the woods, swimming and relaxing.”
Despite her recent loss, she says that she is “very blessed” thanks to her family: “I have gorgeous, healthy, funny kids and a good husband.”
Jennifer is currently busy promoting her new animated film, 9 as well as filming the drama What’s Wrong With Virginia, but says she has no definite plans for new projects after that.
“The biggest thing for me is wanting my kids to grow up safely and have happy lives,” she says. “To me, that’s enough.”
