Rosie O'Donnell Kept Split Quiet For Kids' Sake

Two years after her split from her wife Kelli Carpenter, Rosie O'Donnell admits she's not enjoying being single, but adds, "But on we grow, so to speak."

Though Kelli moved out of the family home long ago, she and Rosie only announced their break-up last month. Rosie explains that they kept the news a secret for the sake of their kids Parker, 14, Chelsea, 12, Blake, 9, and Vivienne, 6.

"We wanted to make sure we were in a safe and stable place as a family unit before we had to face the media," she told Extra at last night's Rosie's Broadway Extravaganza in New York, which she attended with her son Parker. "I'm proud of us all - how we've been able to get ourselves through the challenges. What you want to teach your children is that life is not always perfect, and sometimes you get a left turn when you don't expect it, and everybody's able to make it through."

Rosie and Kelli met in 1997 and wed in San Francisco in 2004.
