Elton John: I Will Still Support Lev & His Brother

Elton John's partner David Furnish says the musician was devastated after not being permitted to adopt a Ukrainian child. However, the Crocodile Rock singer plans to support the boy anyway.

The 62-year-old British pop star met 14-month-old Lev at an orphanage for children who are HIV-positive in September. But his adoption request was rejected due to his age and marital status. Although John and Furnish tied the knot in 2005 in a civil union in England, Ukrainian authorities do not recognize gay unions as marriage.

Furnish revealed on Tuesday that the couple was "massively gutted" by the rejection and added that they are working to ensure that Lev and his brother "have the best health care, education and family options available to them."

Furnish added that the couple plan to campaign for a change in Ukrainian law.
