John Edwards Finally Admits: "I Am Quinn's Father"

John Edwards is finally coming clean. The former Democratic presidential hopeful admits in a written statement to NBC that he is the father of a 2-year-old daughter, Quinn, with Rielle Hunter, who worked as a campaign videographer, Us reports.

In his statement provided to NBC news, Edwards acknowledges the extramarital affair and says he is taking responsibility for the child, Frances Quinn Hunter:

I am Quinn's father. I will do everything in my power to provide her with the love and support she deserves. I have been able to spend time with her during the past year and trust that future efforts to show her the love and affection she deserves can be done privately and in peace."

Edwards, 56, and his wife Elizabeth Edwards have been married for nearly 33 years. The couple had four children together. Their eldest child, son Wade, died in a 1996 car accident. In August 2008, Edwards admitted to having an affair with Hunter, but repeatedly denied being the father of her child. The former North Carolina senator is finally facing the truth.

It was wrong for me ever to deny she was my daughter and hopefully one day, when she understands, she will forgive me. I have been providing financial support for Quinn and have reached an agreement with her mother to continue providing support in the future. To all those I have disappointed and hurt these words will never be enough, but I am truly sorry."
