The multi-talented Queen Latifah stopped by The Today Show yesterday to chat about her current projects on and off the big screen.
The Chicago star discussed the latest cause that is near and dear to her: Working with Pure, a company that helps to provide clean drinking water for people who need it around the world.
When talk turned to Hollywood’s efforts to aid Haiti in the wake of the devastating earthquake that hit earlier this month, Queen Latifah revealed that her thoughts are with the country’s kids.
“I wanna just go down there and get some of those babies,” she said. “If you got a hook up, please get me a couple of Haitian kids. It’s time. I’m ready. I got two arms, I can handle at least two. I can take a third in a backpack, and one in the front, we could just wrap it in some swaddling cloth…give me four.”
This isn’t the first time that Latifah, 39, has talked about adopting. In 2007 she told Ellen DeGeneres, “I want to have and adopt [kids]. I always have, ever since I was 18 I wanted a baby and I wanted to have and adopt because there are a lot of kids.”
I have to say, the flippant way she is talking about children in this is a little disturbing. I know she’s probably joking but I dunno, that’s not really the kind of thing you joke about.
Someone who has “wanting kids since she was 18″ is not flippant. Sounds more like her heart is heavy to help and she’s just making light of it b/c that is what she does…make people laugh!
While I understand where this writers thoughts & comments about Queen Latifah’s recent statements about adopting a child/children come from, I disagree with her.
It is obvious that Queen Latifah has been talking about wanting a child/children for sometime. If she is & has been talking about it publically it is surely because she has been thinking about it privately, most likely discussing it with friends & family & working out the full ramifications of such a move.
And yes, she is a multitalented singer, comedian, and actress. But it is clear that she has a heart of gold, which is remarkable in the entertainment industry, she also has the finantual stability to assure any child that she would into her home would have a wonderful life.
With all the need for any help to our disaster & war torn world I say you “Go Girl” and get some of those poor babies!

she didn’t mean it like that. It is so freaking annoying when people always assume the worst about comments. Someone who has dreamed of having children wants to help when there are so many orphans in Haiti and she is more than able to handle it so she says bring it on. There are not many people that would be willing to bring a child other than their own into their home and offer them a life instead of poverty. Why don’t you look at it that way.
Thank you! She has a “silly”(in a good way) kind of humor and is a very kind person (according to the people who know her). I hope she and all the people out there who can offer a better life to these children will take up the challenge. And yes, that includes me.

I saw her on Today, and while she WAS joking, I think that many of us joke about very serious subjects, especially when we are in the process of making a life-changing decision. I see nothing wrong with that. More power to her, and I hope she makes the right decision.

Love Queen Lativah. With that being said; No MORE children should be removed from Haiti until all efforts have been exhausted to connect them to their parents and/ or other family members. I know everyone wants to help every child but even good intentions are WRONG unless they know for CERTAIN that a child is orphaned.
Also what is wrong with adopting homeless orphaned children that are already in America. Did you know that 1 out of every 5 children in America goes to bed HUNGRY.
Celebrities are collecting foreign orphans like they use to collect dogs. Children are Not fashion accessories.
I wish that some of these people with money would help some who don’t have that much but would love to have children would help someone out. My daughter has wanted kids for a long time, she can’t have them and even though she has been a foster mother they are always filtering in and out of the home. We have a huge room that is probably bigger than anything they have lived in and it is empty if someone knows how to get to help these kids out say something to someone. I live in Alaska but I bet they wouldn’t mind.
