With the release of her new film Iron Man 2 approaching, multi-talented mom-of-two Gwyneth Paltrow seems to be all over the newsstands these days. The 37-year-old beauty, who has kids Apple, 5 1/2, and Moses, 4, looks lovely in the May issue of Harper’s Bazaar magazine, where she chats about fame, family and why she “lucked out” in finding her husband Chris Martin.
On happiness: “When you’re having dinner with your kids and your husband and someone says something funny or you’re dying laughing because your three-year-old made a fart joke, it doesn’t matter what else is going on. That’s real happiness.”
On getting support – and guitar lessons – from her Coldplay hubby Chris Martin: “He was so helpful, so sweet and encouraging. I mean, it’s embarrassing to be playing in front of your husband, especially when he’s in one of the world’s most successful bands. He is so great because he’s so supportive of me as an artist. He loves the fact that I’m working and was so fulfilled by this job that I did in Nashville [where she filmed the upcoming movie Love Don’t Let Me Down]. He’s my biggest supporter. He’s always like, ‘We’ll make it work.’ … I really lucked out with him. He’s deeply lovely and special.”
On filming Iron Man: “Iron Man was heaven. The kids could come every day. They had their mini Jeep they drove around the parking lot in front of my trailer. I wasn’t naked or crying like on the Nashville movie, where it was like, ‘No, you can’t visit Mommy today.’ This was a much different thing. But professionally, I did feel so ‘Oh, my God, yes, this is what I do. You know, this is me.’”
On the paparazzi: “The thing about the paparazzi, I realized, is it’s probably made me look like a really grumpy person. Because when you get a magazine and you see someone with a scowl on her face, looking down, you’re like, ‘God, she looks like a bitch’ or ‘She looks like an unhappy old lady.’ But when you’re the person they’re taking the picture of, it’s like, ‘You just followed me and made my kid cry and you’re going to make money off it? You want me to look at you and smile? Are you out of your mind?’”
On her ex Brad Pitt and his partner Angelina Jolie: “Every time, they’re like, ‘Their marriage is in crisis!’ or whatever. And you’re just like, ‘Well, you always write that about me, and it’s never right, so I can only assume it’s not right.’ I feel bad for them. They have it worse than anybody on the planet. I mean, we get hounded too, but not like that.”
Robert Downey Jr weighs in on Gwyneth: “The press loves her and knows she’s talented, but now they just want to see how hot she looks in those Louboutins. Or whatever crazy shoes. She was practically wearing things that had goldfish swimming around in the heels. She knows how to go large, and she knows how to be that thing and that person, and then the rest of the time she’s wearing a pair of yoga pants and steaming some cod or something.”View Slideshow »»
