After kicking butt in Tomb Raider and Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Angelina Jolie has proven that she can play the action game just as well as Hollywood’s A-list big boys. But with her latest thriller, Salt, she may prove that she can replace them, too.
The gorgeous mother-of-six shows off her back tattoos for EW and opens up about her latest role that was originally written for a man, if she’ll work with partner Brad Pitt again, and what motivates her to take on these action-packed flicks.
On if she’ll work with Brad again soon: “I love working with him. He’s my favorite actor to work with, and the only complicated thing is to find the right project.”
On why she takes on action flicks: “I had just had two babies, and the push to be physically strong was very welcomed at the time. The funny thing about having children is that now I am twice as motivated to do a cool stunt because my kids will like it.”
On changing the gender of the lead character in Salt: “I was simply looking for the best action script that was going around. Hopefully we’ve succeeded in making her more emotionally complex and physically meaner. We expect different things from men and from women, both emotionally and physically. For example, a man can have a character arc in which he discovers his heart at the end – that would never be a surprise for a woman.”
