Celebrity Exes Who Parent Well Together

Celebrity Exes Who Parent Well Together

Even with the magical land of Hollywood as a backdrop, fairytale endings are hard to come by. But when relationships that involve children fizzle, some star parents do their best to put their own problems aside and put the well-being of their children first.

Click below to read about four celebrity couples whose marriages may have tanked, but whose abilities to parent well together soar above and beyond the drama.

Here are four couples for whom the romance died, but the love of parenting continues.

The rocker and the beauty, who was nominated for an Oscar for playing a rock star groupie in Almost Famous, may have called it quits on their love affair, but their son Ryder still reaps the rewards of their healthy joint parenting skills and admiration for each other. When they first broke-up Kate Hudson was quoted as graciously saying, “Look, Chris and I are still basically living together! We’ve figured it out. I mean, obviously, nothings perfect, but I could never look at our divorce as a mistake. If anything, it’s the best thing that ever happened to us.”

Furthermore, Kate Hudson feels fortunate that Chris Robinson is Ryder’s father. She says,

Chris is a great dad. I feel really lucky. When we first met, it was so immediate. I had no question in my mind I was supposed to marry him and have children with him.” Of their divorce Kate offers, It just wasn’t working. It was that simple. I loved him like crazy.

With regard to her own parenting skills Kate says, “I’m a pretty strict mom, which is funny. I didn’t think I’d be so strict. I feel like he is so great, he’s such a good kid, people really connect with him, they want to give him things and do things for him, and I’m like, no. The next thing you know, you have the kid who’s being cute in order to get something.”

Hudson also attributes her son’s ear for music to his talented daddy. “He loves to sing. He loves to dance. You get a guitar on him, and he’s mimicking a real guitar player,” she tells USA Today. “Ryder dances to the beat of his own drum already.”

The ex-couple was even spotted celebrating Father’s Day together in NYC with their respective significant others, when Hudson was dating Lance Armstrong.

Jude Law may be known as a real cad, but he’s also a hands-on dad. He and ex-wife Sadie Frost have four children together, Rafferty, 13, Iris, 9, and Rudy, 7, and he is also father to Samantha Burke’s 6 month-old daughter, Sophia. Post divorce, Frost and Law have even been known to vacation together with their children. Frost’s recent proposal of a tell-all book has Law fuming mad, but we’re still reminiscing about the days that these two got along and parented well together.

Law is constantly seen on the go with his brood, whether they are on a Caribbean vacation or playing soccer in New York City. He also says that being a “daddy is what counts,” saying with regard to fatherhood,

I used to sleep until noon, but it’s not so bad to have to get up at 7 and give them breakfast. My daughter made me realize that if there’s anything that’s going to make a man of you, it’s having your will broken by a little girl.

Bruce Willis and Demi Moore are among the Hollywood pioneers for staying civil for the kids once the divorce papers are signed. Parents to kids Rumer, 21, Scout, 18 and Tallulah, 16, this ex-couple really raised the bar for remaining great friends after their 13 year long marriage went south. Moore even attended Willis’ wedding to new wife, Emma Heming with her husband Ashton Kutcher, of whom Bruce Willis is a big fan. Willis says of his divorce from Moore,

You can’t spend a decade with someone and raise kids with her and come away unfeeling,” he explains to Men’s Journal. “I just put my head down and said, ‘The kids come first. And we’ll do whatever it takes and maybe even laugh about it.’

He adds, “Once you start putting the kids first, it isn’t uncomfortable,” he adds. “Bravery is stupid a lot of times, but there’s nothing stupid about this particular subject.”

Although they have recently split after six years of marriage, we have high hopes for the co-parenting skills of Sam Mendes and Kate Winslet. They were seen together in New York City, holding the hands of their children, Joe, 6 (their son together) and Mia, 9 (Winslet’s daughter from a previous relationship.)

The statement the couple released with regard to their break-up was as follows:

Kate and Sam are saddened to announce that they separated earlier this year. The split is entirely amicable and is by mutual agreement. Both parties are fully committed to the future joint parenting of their children. They ask that the media respect the privacy of the family.

So, it looks as though they’re getting off on the right foot!
