The couple, who wed in 2006, haven’t settled on a name yet for their first child. “We are pretty sure, but we also thought we were pretty sure a few weeks ago and it changed, so we are sort of waiting until he is here and we have met him to announce it,” says Staton.
The proud papa-do-be says that the nursery is all ready to go. “It was mostly her thing,” Staton admits of Fletcher, 27, who appeared on All My Children in 2006. “I did the painting and all the physical labor part of it. It is not too baby-baby. It is a sweet room.”
The actor confessed he’s a bit anxious about being a first-time father. “I have been nervous about dropping babies in the past, but have been told that once it’s your baby, you are no longer worried about dropping them,” he jokes. “I am nervous that I have a lot to learn… that I won’t pick it up fast enough. I think I am doing OK.”
He predicts there will be more children in their future. “I feel like, not having had any kids yet, two sounds like a good number,” he says.
Staton is also gearing up for the season 4 premiere of Mad Men which airs on July 25.
“This is a world where the president was just assassinated and innocence is lost throughout the country and culture and society. These people are a part of that time and they cant be the same as they were,” he hints. “It is the same show with the same title, the same people… but the tone has changed.”
