Melissa Etheridge & Tammy Lynn Michaels Head To Court
| Jul 15, 2010 by HEIDI ORAN |

Singer Melissa Etheridge and estranged partner Tammy Lynn Michaels headed to court on Monday to hammer out a plan for alimony.
Michaels has recently claimed that she is not receiving any funds from Etheridge, however, an attorney for Etheridge, Neal Hersh, says that the Come To My Window singer is providing her ex with $2,000 a month on top of paying her "household bills including utilities and a car lease." Hersh told People,
[Tammy] is being completely supported by Melissa and has been since they separated. She’s being well-provided for and then some, as are the children, which are Melissa’s first priority."
While Michaels attorney, Steven Knowles acknowledged that "Melissa is paying various sundry expenses," he added that she is "desitute," and said, "It doesn’t put money in her wallet. Literally she has no cash."
The two announced their split in April, after splitting late last year. Michaels, who carried the couples' twins Johnnie and Miller and is attempting to be granted full custody, had been using her blog as an outlet to open up about her side of the split. She has since deleted all of her entries up until late May.

$2,000 a month is not enough money, Melissa can certainly do better than that. Whenever a marriage breaks up, whoever is staying home to raise the children should receive alimony, at least until the children are older. Pre-nups are always a good idea.
well then get at job lady!!
Come on now, $2000 for rent and utilities alone is not enough. Then add all of the expenses of toddlers, food, diapers, etc... She can definitely afford more and should pay more. She wanted those babies as much as Tammy Lynn. If those kids were really important to her this would not even be an issue. That is an embarrassing amount of money for a celebrity.
Considering how much money Melissa Etheridge has, giving her family (which they are) $2,000 is really, really cheap. Never would've thought she's that stingy.
The article said she was giving Tammy Lynn $2000 a month in addition to supporting the children. I think that's plenty of money. If Tammy Lynn wants more, then she can get off her lazy rear end and get a job like the rest of us. Those kids are definitely old enough for day care, so it shouldn't be a problem.
She has a record of leaving when the children are toddlers. I wonder how her other kids are doing. You never hear about them.
I wish to apply my comments to the world at large: Wives/Mothers and when it reasonably applies to Husbands/Fathers...who leave a career, stop working etc. for the marriage/family needs, if the family ends, you the one who was not working however many years later cannot immediately go find employment and regain a financial secure position for yourself. Instead of Pre Nups that payout upon the end, I recommend that a payment and retirement when you begin be established in your name that is separate from child support. Taking care of children is love, but it does make you dependent upon your partner that maynot deal with you fairly. The other thing is never stop working to have your own money unless your partner agrees to pay you a salary like you would earn in your career.
That article is mis-quoted - it is not $2,000 INCLUDING rent, utilities, etc., it is $2,000 cash/month IN ADDITION TO all utilities, rent, and car lease that Melissa is paying on top of that.
I hope you are right about that! If so, then Melissa is in fact being reasonable.
Some parents do not want their children to go to day care, because here in the U.S., quality day care is lacking. Even if Tammy decided to send the children off to day care, two tuitions would be extremely expensive (they are celebrity children, Tammy will not qualify for government assistance) .Melissa would be better off financially (without paying for day care), and the children would be better off with their mother, for Melissa to just pay a bit more. I don't think Tammy should receive a ton of money, just a reasonable amount in which to care for the children properly.
i have heard that Melissa is paying the rent, bills and utilities....anything to do with the kids plus car hireage for Tammy plus giving her 2000 a month for other expenses...apparently it adding up to around 10 thousand a month....of course Melissa would see her kids go without.
oops last line meant to say Melissa WOULDN"T see her kids go without.
