Liev Schreiber’s Tattoos Were Inspired By A Dream

Wolverine star Liev Schreiber has the names of his two children tattooed on the inside of his forearms – and idea that came to him in a dream.

“I’m not really a tattoo person at all,” explains the 42-year-old actor. “But I had this dream that one day I would go to pick them up at college, and I would be there in whatever outfit that a sixty-something man would go to pick up their kids at college with, and we’d get a flat tire, and I would get out and I would change the tire, and as I was changing the tire, the sleeve would come up over my wrinkled skin and they would see their names tattooed on my arms and that would be a big deal to them.”

I thought it would just be a wonderful reminder of how much I love them.

Liev, who is dad to 3-year-old Sasha and 19-month-old Kai with his partner, Mulholland Drive star Naomi Watts, says this isn’t the first time he’s been influenced by a dream. After having dreams about flying, he took up scuba diving because he believed it would mimic the feeling: “I had vivid flying dreams. And when I first started making a living as an actor, I would try to pursue these things that I thought would be a like flying.”

“A lot of what I do in my flying dreams is just float above houses,” he continues. “Kind of hover very slowly. Very much like scuba diving.”

Liev and his family are currently traveling abroad as he promotes his latest film, Salt, starring Angelina Jolie.

How could you tire of those beautiful little faces? I literally start grinning when I see that photo there. The look of pure joy on Sasha’s face is so heartwarming. And I love Liev’s tattoo story. When I have children I want their names tattooed on me. My stepmum has it for her girls and I just think it’s a really beautiful way to show the eternal, unwavering nature of a parent’s love for their children.
