Ne-Yo On Fatherhood: "I'm Terrified"

‘Champagne Life’ singer Ne-Yo (born Shaffer Chimere Smith) recently broke the news that he and his girlfriend Monyetta Shaw have a baby on the way! In a new interview with CNN, the dad-to-be talks about love and marriage, and reveals why he’s “terrified” to become a father.

On the baby on the way: “I’m going to have my first child in January. I’m terrified, I’m gonna be all the way honest. I’ve never seen myself as a father, you know what I mean? I knew eventually I would get married and have kids and all of that stuff. By the way, the marriage rumors aren’t true. Let’s clear that up. I’m not engaged, I’m not to be married. But the baby rumor is true.”

On following his mom’s example: “My mom was my mom and my dad. I didn’t need the male role model. I figure if I do it the way my mom did it, then my kid is going to be fine.”

On life lessons: “I’m going to teach my child the value of a dollar. The ‘Champagne Life’ can mean you’re just living what the good life is to you. So in that form, yes, my child will definitely be living the ‘Champagne Life.’”

On love or money: “Love, of course. Who wouldn’t say love, right? You’d be surprised how many people would actually go the other way.”

I give all the credit in the world to single moms, but I’m sorry, it’s just not the same as having a mother AND a father…especially for boys. They need their dads to teach them how to be men.

Him denying the marriage/engagement rumors makes him sound like a pig. So it’s totally ok to go around knocking up women and not marry them? Gross.
