The Duggars “Would Welcome Another” Baby

The Duggars "Would Welcome Another" Baby

Now 8 months old and weighing just over 11 pounds, Josie Duggar is “doing remarkable,” mom Michelle reported on The Today Show this morning.

With their entire family gathered around them, Michelle and her husband Jim-Bob gave an update on little Josie’s progress and talked about the new season of their TLC show 19 Kids and Counting.

Born early at 25 weeks due to Michelle’s pre-eclampsia, Josie weighed just 1lb 6oz and was forced to spend extended periods in the hospital due to various health concerns. Now back home, Jim-Bob says that she’s doing well despite needing supplemental oxygen while sleeping, and adds, “By the time she’s 2 she should be caught up developmentally.”

So could there be a 20th Duggar child on the way sometime soon? Michelle admits they’re not ruling it out, saying “we would welcome” another babe.

Earlier this year Michelle, 43, told People, “We’ll just wait and see what God has in store.”

Then they should wait two years to have another baby. Let Josie catch up first!

This is absolutely criminal!! I watched them on the Today Show and my blood has been boiling ever since. What a SELFISH, irresponsible decision! Before having Jose, she was told NOT to have any more chidren by two doctors (due to preeclampsia (sp?) and other medical issues). She chose to ignore that advice, and had a 25-weeker. I don’t care how rosey they make it look now, that poor baby has been SUFFERING for months, and will likely face life-long health problems and delays. Not to mention the medical cost of care and resources and the toll on the entire family. It’s a tragedy when micro-preemies are born under any circumstances, but when their birth was a PREVENTABLE tragedy it makes it absolutely criminal.

Your blood has been boiling? You should probably find a hobby, then, or something to occupy your time. This family and their decisions don’t affect you in any way, so no need to be angry about their choices. If they decide to have more children, and their children and they suffer for it, it’s on them. There are plenty of real heartbreaking cases all over the US… get mad about them. The Duggars will be fine. Their next child could come out with no problems whatsoever- none of us know. So why doesn’t everyone just leave them be?

They are not letting them be because they are not just your average friendly neighborhood family. They willingly exposed themselves by going on TV, reducing themselves to the level of regular TV characters, so people shouldn’t feel bad for discussing and criticizing them. Though they are real people, it’s fair and square to discuss another episode of “19 and Counting” the way people used to discuss an episode of “Full House”. If they wanted privacy and wished for nothing but being left alone, they wouldn’t have gone with the show.

My blood isn’t boiling though it should. It’s irresponsible. She has 19 children, and 18 aren’t of age yet. Another pregnancy may be dangerous and even fatal. It’s one thing to fall ill – one has no or little control over it. However, willingly risking one’s life and health when there is a chance of that 19 kids can end up not having a mother it’s irresponsible and selfish.

I’m curious to know how the duggars having kids affects your life. So tired of people always having something negative to say about the Duggars. What give you the right?! Never heard of the saying if you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything at all? And explain to me exactly how the Duggars having kids is criminal. It’s nobody’s business how many kids they have. You can tell a woman or a couple how many kids they should have. You’re not God. All you should concern yourself with is you and your family. So what if they want 20 or 30 kids. It doesn’t affect you or anyone else in any way. It’s their decision. Most of us have grandparents who’ve had 14 or 15 kids. If you don’t want 20 kids then great for you but they do. So just mind your business. They don’t take care of their kids using tax dollars. They very resourceful with their money and take care of their kids financially without government assistance. Only then would you have a say because then they would be using your tax dollars right? so until then maybe you should mind your own business.

If they absolutely want another baby, fine. They should at least make sure Josie is okay and where she needs to be with her health first! It would be horrible if they didn’t wait.

They won’t “wait” because they don’t use birth control. I fully expect an announcement of a new pregnancy any day and absolutely before this season is over.

Let’s hope biology (because that’s what’s controls things here, not “god”) decides they are done. The last thing this country needs is another addition to this family of religious whackjobs.

I agree – truer words have never been spoken. Some daycare centers have fewer children than this crazy family. Plus, homeschooling their kids, with a 6-year-old in the same “classroom” as a 14-year-old, is a total disgrace. If they don’t want to rely on public education (which is weird since Jim-Bob is some sort of local government official), send them to a parochial school where they can get religious education along with regular education. Their mother barely graduated from high school – and she teaches them K-12!

Being home schooled by someone not qualified to teach anyone, how does this hurt their chances of getting into a good college or any college for that matter. I really do not know about the whole home school process but surely it cannot really prepare a child for a higher education. Just a thought, but I could be wrong.

I was homeschooled all the way through. I now have a Bachelors Degree. It has not hurt my chances at all. Actually most homeschoolers learn faster than sitting in a classroom with a bunch of other kids that don’t know anything. It is obvious that you do not know much about homeschooling. You can look at test scores and see that homeschooled kids usually have better test scores that kids in public or private school. All of your reasons for how horrible this all is are ridiculous. They provide for their family. Their children are happy. What business is it of yours?

big families aren’t new though before birth control which Michelle doesn’t use because she lost a pregnancy due to not stopping the pill in time was readily used. look at Celine Dion she’s the youngest of 14 or Claire Newman she’s the youngest of 6 would’ve been seven had her mom not had a miscarriage. besides Josie won’t neccessarily Catch up to the other kids. and If they actually had another baby it would be likely to repeat Josie’s cycle.

Exactly, Courtney!! This isn’t the first big family on earth (I knew a woman whose aunt had 24 kids. 24!!!), and it won’t be the last. There are women all over the world who just have as many kids as their body allows- they just aren’t on TV.

what kind of job does he have? how does he take care of all those children without any type of social services? so, yes, we help them every time they have another.

They are self-sustained, Kathleen, it’s a well-known fact by people who know who they are. Complain about the ones who have three children and are on welfare and refuse to get a job… the Duggars, thank goodness, don’t fall in that category.

They do own real estate and whatnot, but they say they are debt free–thanks in part to reality show contracts. People complain about the people who refuse to work. We complain about the ones that do and don’t spend time with there children.

You’re helping them by tuning in to watch their show. They are getting paid by TLC, and the number of viewers supports the ratings. People watch this train wreck – and the show goes on. The kids are uneducated because they are being taught by their mother who barely graduated from high school before tying the knot – none of them graduated from kindergarten, let alone college. They don’t really interact with real world. They don’t experience diversity – ethnic, religious, or social. Yeah, this family is not the first one and not the last one to have many kids – but they are going for quantity, not quality. With 20 kids it’s impossible to give individual attention, which is essential. These poor kids are handicapped in a way from the get-go. Yes, they seem happy, but they don’t know any better because they don’t have any friends whose lives are different from theirs.

excuse me but large families were the norm a century ago in hopes some children would make it to infancy. I’m so tired of hearing how so and so had upteen kids. Just because it worked two centuries ago doesn’t it works now. There was also no birth control. The bad thing is how they are held up as Christian examples. Some can’t support what they have and may try to imitate them.I know what it takes to live and can’t see how anyone can support that many. Something does not add up. Keep in mind they got donations in the early days. Then figure in the built in babysitters and carpenters. The Duggars make it look easy. The main concern is Michelle’ health. I’m all fo rchoice too but not willing to gamble with health.
