Alanis Morisette: I Wasn't Expecting To Be Expecting

Newly preggo Alanis Morissette says she was thrilled to find out during a recent doctor’s visit that she is pregnant with her first child – just a few months after getting married to rapper Souleye.

“I actually thought I wasn’t,” the Canadian songstress, 36, told Chelsea Handler Wednesday on E!’s Chelsea Lately. “I had just sort of said in passing [to my doctor] that I was a little late … And he said, ‘Let’s take a quick look.’”

The doctor said it “looked like” she was pregnant. “And I said, ‘There’s still a chance that I’m not, though, yes?’” she says. “And he said, ‘About as likely as my getting a sex change.’ And I said, ‘So, when are you getting your sex change?’”

Joking aside, Morissette said she was “very happy” to get the unexpected news.

Morissette wed Souleye, 30, (real name: Mario Treadway) in a small ceremony at their Los Angeles home in May. The singer recalled meeting him for the first time at a meditation ceremony at her house.

“He walked in, and I thought, ‘Wow, he’s incredibly sexy,’ ” she said. “But I had no idea what was to become of our little connection.”

Another irresponsible adult out there with an un-planed pregnancy…I knew as soon as she announced the quickie marriage that she was pregnant so no big surprise there.

There is an easy way not to get pregnant-use birth control or don’t have sex!

A surprise? Let’s see. Married, fertile, husband is fertile, frequent sex…the surprise would be if she didn’t get pregnant. If she was using birth control and got pregnant that might be a different story.

For goodness’ sake, she’s married! She was married in May, this is August … let’s see … looks like it probably happened *after* the wedding. Just because the baby was a ‘surprise’ doesn’t mean she doesn’t want a child. It happens, and you move on. Good grief.

FWIW, birth control is NOT 100% accurate in preventing pregnancy. Some women get pregnant while on Depo, the pill, the ring, condoms, everything. Maybe she has other methods that are usually reliable and this time, she was meant to get pregnant. Lighten up already!
