Surprise! British Prime Minister David Cameron's wife Samantha gave birth to a baby girl Tuesday (August 24), while the couple were vacationing and away from their London home. Samantha was not expected to give birth until September, but the prime minister said he and his wife had to rush to the hospital early in the morning.
"It was a bit of a shock but I always thought it was possible," Cameron, told the AP outside the hospital. "It all happened very, very quickly."
The prime minster's office released a statement saying that the baby girl, whose name has not yet been revealed, weighed 6 lbs 1 oz. and that both mother and daughter were doing fine.
The prime minster and his wife have two other children, Elwen and Nancy. Their severely disabled son Ivan died last year aged 6.
