Emilia Fox On Pregnancy After Miscarriage

British-born actress Emilia Fox is reveling in pregnancy, telling the UK's The Daily Mail, "I do know what sex the baby is, but I’m not going to say, because ultimately it doesn’t matter – if it’s a healthy baby, that is all one could possibly hope for. And I’m very, very happy."

The Pianist star says that after suffering a miscarriage at 10 weeks in 2007 she wasn't sure if motherhood was in the cards for her.

"Of course at the time all your fears are, 'My goodness, does that mean motherhood is not going to happen to me?' It’s a painful process that had a psychological effect on me and which I dealt with much later, because at first I only dealt with it by getting on with my work."

Emilia reveals that she eventually sought therapy to help her deal with the loss.

"Miscarriages are a lot more common than I had realised, and it helped me greatly talking to friends who had had miscarriages and discovering how many people I knew who had been through that. I feel very fortunate and privileged that you do get the chance of having a child again."

Though she and her partner Jeremy Gilley don't have plans to marry just - "the baby is the important bond between us," Emilia says - both are thrilled by the prospect of parenthood. That doesn't mean that she plans on putting her career on hold, though.

"I don’t know until the baby comes what I’ll feel like doing. I’ve been too busy. I can’t imagine wanting to give up work because I get my energy from it. Mum gave up lots of work when she had me and my brother Fred, and I think we’ll probably differ like that. But that’s not saying I don’t want to be a hands-on mum and be there for my baby – I do."
