Michael Douglas On Son's Dyslexia
| Oct 3, 2010 by CAROLYN ROBERTSON |

In an interview with UK newspaper The Guardian, actor Michael Douglas reveals that his 10-year-old son Dylan has dyslexia.
"My son deals with dyslexia to a degree - it runs in the family and my brother has it. He goes to a special school," says the Wall Street star.
Earlier this year Michael revealed that the family - he and his wife Catherine Zeta Jones are also parents to daughter Carys, 7 - recently relocated from Bermuda to New York due to Dylan's "special needs," saying, "We lived in Bermuda until last September. One of our kids has some special needs and it was recommended he go to a special school in the New York area."
The 66-year-old actor says that he's a hands-on dad to his two youngest kids, getting them ready for school in the morning and keeping a close eye on who they hang out with.
"The kids recently started new schools, which means having to make new friends. I like to get them up in the morning and get them ready for school. I make them breakfast, and we talk about their day," he says. "I like to know who their friends are. I can see the tightness of the bond we feel and the security they have. It is tremendous, unequivocal love with no judgment, and that is the best feeling in the world."

I think Dylan is said to be autistic too, according to several other stories on the internet.
Maybe the family just wishes to release 'dyslexia'.
Most dyslexic children are just mainstreamed in regular elementary schools, not in special schools, so it must be more than dyslexia. Bless them. There life has turned so tragic. I love them as actors too ! :)
Well, since they're wealthy celebrities, it's unlikely that they would send their son to a public school. And most elite private schools might not have a special-ed program. So I think it makes sense to send Dylan to a special school. Of course it's possible that he does have other special needs that they don't feel the need to share. In any case, I wish them well.
Doesn't he have an out of control adult son?
Yes, he has a son with Diandra Douglas. Cameron. He is in prison for dealing drugs (meth). He must be about 32. I do hope Michael survives, so he attempt to make it up to Cameron, who seems like a very confused guy.
Cameron is, after all, Michael's first-born son.
Not to be insensitive but how old is he again fathering a 10 yr old? Not only did the child miss Down Syndrome, but with the genetic component and his old aged sperm, having a kid at 52 wasn't the brightest of ideas. I hope he beats the cancer, I love Catherine!
My husband was 51 when our daughter was born 22 years ago. She is not only a sweet, loving girl and the light of her dad's older years, she is drop-dead gorgeous, went to college on a full scholarship, graduated with honors and is currently finishing a Master's degree in Nuclear Chemistry. If that's what older sperm does, thank God for it!
He is in great health and there is no reason to expect he won't be walking her down the aisle in a few years, whereas several of her friends have lost much-younger parents to accidents or illnesses.
Believe me, they have far fewer problems than some of our "normal" non-celebrity families have. My paternal grandparents divorced in the mid 1940s and remarried and each had another set of kids. Then we have had assasination, incest, suicides, genetic disease, cancer, deaths from suicides and illness at young age, cohabitation w/o marriage, poverty, homosexuality, long immigration to other countries, accidents, and several other than it is rare you can find in just on both sides of just one individual. We are a big family, yet all of these things have happened in the past hundred years and make a hell of a story. The Douglases by comparison are angels. ;-)
