Singer Charlotte Church rocketed to stardom at age 11 and was known worldwide as the girl with the voice of an angel. Then, along came her two children Ruby, 3, and Dexter, 2, and the star took a hiatus to concentrate on family life.
In a meeting with the U.K.’s Telegraph, Charlotte revealed that she didn’t want to spend time away from her small children so her career took a back seat. “I couldn’t tear myself away from my beautiful babas, to be honest” she said. The 24 year old star went on to explain how family life is not always conducive to creativity.
Unless you’re Kate Bush, you can’t really write interesting songs about domesticity, washing baby clothes and breast-feeding. I didn’t really have the inspiration.”
Charlotte and the father of her two children, Welsh rugby star Gavin Henson, have since quietly and amicably separated. It was important for them to remain friends because, as she explained,
We’ve got children and they are the most important thing in both of our worlds.”
The break-up was not without sadness and Charlotte’s emotion was inspiration for her latest album – her first in 5 years. “Maybe music needs to be pre-empted by a little pain” she said. “It was all going on when I started writing these songs. It wasn’t a heart-wrenching, horrendous emotional turmoil; it was just a kind of sorrow.”
