Britiain’s Daily Mail reports that Katie Price, glamour model and TV personality, is anxious about her unsuccessful attempts to get pregnant. The 32 year old already has three children – Harvey, 8, Junior, 5, and Princess Tiaamii, 3 – but her husband Alex Reid has no biological children of his own.
The couple’s emotional journey began in April 2010 when, after months of trying to conceive, they decided to undergo IVF treatment.
She wrote in her new autobiography,
After marrying Alex I had only one thing on my mind – having another baby. I’d love to have another four, in fact. But by April 2010, after we had been trying for eight months, I became so worried we made an appointment with a fertility doctor.”
Katie, who is terrified of needles, then began the process of ICSI (Intra-cytoplasmic Sperm Injection) which is a series of painful injections and involves stimulating egg production. A sperm sample is selected and injected into the egg before the embryo is put back into the uterus when it starts to grow.
Two failed attempts have affected the glamour model’s emotional well-being and, when the second try was unsuccesful, actually persuaded herself that she was expecting.
I convinced myself I was having twins. I didn’t care about feeling so bloated, uncomfortable and unattractive. If I was pregnant then none of those things mattered. For the first few days I held on to the feeling of optimism, but then the waiting got to me. Then I started experiencing stomach cramps and bleeding. Alex and I had been so hopeful, so excited, and now all our dreams were dashed.”
Katie, also known as Jordan, has not been alone in feeling the strain. Her husband wondered if their problem with conception would affect their love, but she was quick to reassure him,
I told him, “Alex, don’t EVER think like that. I love you, and I’m with you whatever happens. We will have a baby one day; we’ll do whatever it takes. We are in this together.”
The star is determined to have another child one way or another. “I know I’m lucky to have three beautiful children. While Alex doesn’t yet have a biological child, he is still part of a family with kids. I am sure we’ll have a baby together one day. If we aren’t successful in our attempts then we will adopt.”
