Rachel Dratch Reveals Identity Of Baby Eli's Father

Throughout her pregnancy and after the birth of her son Eli Benjamin on August 24, Rachel Dratch remained mum on the identity of the father.

But today, the Saturday Night Live alum is finally breaking her silence. "People are expecting the craziest story," Dratch tells PEOPLE. "I just meant it's crazy for me!"

Dratch reveals that Eli's father is her boyfriend John Wahl, a California-based consultant to natural foods businesses. They first met a year ago at a bar, and six months later – at age 43 – she was shocked to find herself pregnant.

"I had bought into all this stuff about, 'Once you're over 40...' " Dratch says. "I'd gone through the whole process of letting go of [the idea of having kids]."

Dratch says that she and Wahl – who has since moved to New York City to be closer to his girlfriend and 9-week-old son – are raising their son together, and living a domestic life neither of them could have predicted.

"[Rachel] was resigned to the fact that this wasn't going to happen and had written it off," says Wahl, who was "completely floored" to hear that Dratch was expecting. "That may add to the adrenaline and euphoria and excitement."

As for their future together, "the focus now is just surrounding Eli with love," says Wahl. "But you never know!"

It floors me when women act all surprise about finding out they're pregnant knowing very well that they were having unprotected sex. It's the dumbest reaction ever to being pregnant. You would think by now that it's basic common sense. Unprotected sex=pregnancy. Plain and simple.

I agree. She's 43 so why would she think she was unable to have a child unless she had been "trying" for sometime.

Guys, relax. Clearly she wanted a child. She was just pessimistic about her chances given her age.

It's one thing to be judgmental and negative, but it's even worse to judge someone who didn't even make the mistake you are accusing her of!! Read more carefully before you get all catty...

They're not judging her, they're just saying if you are having unprotected sex, why are you surprised when you get pregnant?? I totally agree.

She's surprised because she thought she was too told. Did you even read the post? Unprotected sex is irrelevant (to pregnancy) if you're not able to get pregnant in the first place, and she thought she wasn't.

Why does everyone always go straight to unprotected sex anyway? Condom and birth control aren't 100% effective!

All I am thinking is, POOR GUY! For all I know she might as well have been a bit desperate (given the age) and premeditate the pregnancy without the guy's knowledge. Agree with ano @5.55

Without knowing the whole story, I wouldn't call this man a "poor guy." I'm guessing he knows what condoms are. And it sounds like both he and Rachel are actually totally thrilled to have a kid, they just don't know if they, themselves, will be a couple.
