Céline Dion Was Expecting Triplets

In a shocking interview, Céline Dion has revealed to French news station Canoe that she was originally expecting triplets.

The Power of Love singer gave birth to twin boys last Saturday, but says she was initially expecting three sons after conceiving via In vitro fertilisation (IVF).

He chose to let go to give space to his brothers to grow,” Céline said.

It is not yet known at what stage of the pregnancy she lost the third child.

The 42-year-old pop star and her 68-year-old husband René Angelil – who also have a 9-year-old son René-Charles together — underwent six IVF treatments before Céline got pregnant.

The couple have named the boys Eddy and Nelson, after record producer Eddy Marnay and human rights campaigner and former South African President Nelson Mandela.

yes it would be considered a particial miscarriage as the other two survived. tragic yes but not uncommon. my heart goes out to them

How does such a thing work?
Does the fetus get aborted? I’m very curious..

Well, since she says ‘He chose to let go to give space to his brothers to grow’ obviously she didn’t abort. She had a partial miscarriage. From what I’ve read, it’s not uncommon in multiple pregnancies, especially with IVF.

if the fetus is expelled from the body it’s called an abortion, it’s just a ‘spontaneous abortion’. basically another way of saying miscarriage.

The baby may not have been expelled though. It is common in multiple pregnancies for one to miscarry and the fetus is absorbed into the body. Like one poster said below, it’s Vanishing Twin Syndrom.

Yes and the post before was correct its classed in medical terms as a Spontaneous Abortion!!! Meaning it happened spontaneously i.e not planned.

I read that is was in a very early stage, so we’re talking about cells or a very tiny fetus, zo no ‘need’ to abort.

I’m guessing the fetus just stopped growing early on.

Usually when it’s early enough in the pregnancy, the embryo/fetus will be reabsorbed. For a better explanation search for ‘vanishing twin’ on Wikipedia (I tried to post the link, but it wouldn’t work).

The way Celine stated that was quite lovely.
