Ricky Martin: "I Know What Unconditional Love Is"

The birth of his sons Valentino and Matteo in 2008 was a life-changing event for Ricky Martin in many ways. Not only did he become a father, but it made him decide to reveal to the world that he's gay.

"The moment I sat down and held my children in my arms, I said enough is enough," the singer tells USA Today. "I need to tell the world what I'm about, my nature, because not doing so would be teaching my children how to lie. I didn't want it to be, 'At home, we're one thing, but when we go out, we're another.'"

Though he was worried about the response the news would get, he says reaction from fans, friends and family has been "beautiful."

"When my babies were born, my father said, 'Now it's time to come out!'" he reveals. "So imagine the support system that I had."

Ricky, 38, says that he'd always dreamed of having a family.

"I always saw myself as a father. I have amazing memories of moments I spent with my dad. To be quite honest, I didn't know it was going to be two (babies). ... Your priorities change. Even the way I drive is different. Once again, it's not about me anymore, now I know what unconditional love is."

The 'Livin' La Vida Loca' singer chronicles his life - including his childhood, fame and path to fatherhood - in his new memoir titled Me.
