Julianne Moore: Kids Of Gay Parents Are "Healthy And Happy"
| Nov 4, 2010 by MARSHA TAKEDA-MORRISON |

Julianne Moore is at the International Rome Film Festival promoting The Kids Are Alright, the film she stars in with Annette Bening as a long-term lesbian couple raising their teenage children. Moore used the opportunity to speak out in favor of gay parents, telling reporters that studies prove children of same-sex couples were "healthy and happy and everything you'd want them to be."
"What children need is two loving parents," the actress said. "It doesn't matter if they are two moms, or two dads, or a mom and a dad."
"Parenting is about the time you put in and the investment you make in ushering this little child and turning it into an adult," Moore continued. "Whether you are a woman or a man, that is what your job is."
A longtime supporter of gay marriage, Moore said the film set out to show what it means to be a family and that simply being the biological father does not make someone the better parent.
Moore, who is mom to Caleb, 12, and Liv, 8, was also asked by reporters to comment on Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's remark on Tuesday that it was "better to like beautiful girls than to be gay." Moore didn't hesitate when she said, "I think it's unfortunate, archaic and idiotic.
"To hint or to say that there is something wrong with homosexuality...it's unfortunate and it's embarrassing when people continue to perpetrate these untruths," she said.
