In February Jim Carrey became a grandfather at the tender age of 48 when his daughter Jane, 22, gave birth to a son. This unexpected blessing has given Jim’s life a new focus and nine-month old Jackson Riley is the apple of his eye.
In an appearance on Access Hollywood the stand-up-comedian turned movie-star spoke enthusiastically about this latest addition to the family.
I love being granddaddy, granddaddy Jim. It’s very odd, it’s not something I expected at this age to be,” Jim says, and adds, “I just get a lot of joy, a lot of joy from that little boy. He’s just magical. It’s the greatest feeling in the world and as you get older, your connection to these things gets so intense. You just go, ‘Without this, I die.’ “
The star of Pet Detective was dating Jenny McCarthy for five years but they split up earlier this year. He admits that his relationships are not always smooth sailing and thinks he has to work on self-respect before he can be in a happy partnership. He candidly stated,
I’ve been obsessed and craved love, but always it comes down to the same thing. They are there to help you love yourself. When they go missing you go, ‘Oh, I see. I’m not done here. I still got a lot of work to do.’ ”
The funnyman went on to say that relationships are “tough” terrain.
“Relationships are tough. People are focused on saving themselves. Everybody is real motivated. Everybody is trying to realize a dream and I think everybody that comes into your life teaches you something and that’s it. Forever is an interesting concept. I don’t know what that means.”
