Mom, model and mogul Kathy Ireland is busy working on a new project these days, teaming with Latisse and the Make-A-Wish Foundation to raise over $400,000 to help make sick kids’ dreams come true. The 47-year-old mom-of-three talks to Parade about the importance of giving back.
On learning to lend a hand: “My dad was a labor union organizer and my mom is a nurse. Our family taught us that all that you give is all that you get.”
On being a very proud mama: “Our three kids are amazing heroes. Each of them is involved in non-profit activities all year-round. They serve in foreign countries, disaster relief, world hunger, and local education efforts. Our kids just don’t stop giving.”
On being called “an advocate for working mothers:” “All moms work whether we get paid or not. As moms, we need lots of help. There are so many demands on our time. You never stop being a mom. It’s a lifetime occupation. Once I became a mother, I understood how under-served mothers are today. That’s why the foundation of kathy ireland Worldwide, ‘…finding solutions for families, especially busy moms.’ That mission now includes over 45,000 products which are sold in more than 50 countries.”
On prioritizing: “Thank you, but I don’t do it all… at least not all at once. You can have it all, but not at the same time. You must set priorities. Mine are faith, family and being of service through our work. And, for the record, I was never an actress. I have the bad movies to prove it!”
