Michelle Duggar On Her "Miracle" Baby Josie

What a difference a year makes! Josie Duggar's first birthday is cause for big celebration for her family of 21.

"This baby is so small, I don't think she can survive," Michelle said shortly after the arrival of her youngest daughter, who was born at just 25 weeks weighing 1lb, 6oz. Not only did she survive, but she's hitting new milestones all the time. "Her outlook is so wonderful," gushes her mom. "It is a miracle."

"We call her our little pajama girl because she has to wear a certain kind of snap pajamas for the monitor wires," Michelle tells People. "She is in 6-month-old clothes now, but we have some 9-month-old ones ready for her to grow into."

Josie isn't the only 1-year-old in the very large family. Her big sister Jordyn turns 2 on December 18 and brother Joshua's daughter - her niece - Mackynzie celebrated her first birthday in October.

Cute! Cute!! Cute!!! Mom and Dad really need to take a very serious look at how fortunate they have been with Baby Josie. She still may have life long battles from her very early birth. Hope the parents say to each other...we are done! No need to add any more to this family! Our family is complete! :-)

So do you think that ANY family with a special needs child should be "done"... or is it just THIS family?

Anonymous said:

Where has it ever been said that Baby Josie is "special needs"? The only special needs i've seen that she needs is closer medical monitoring/needs. "Special Needs" usually refers to those children with mental or physical handicaps. I've never heard any mention of those things being applied to her. I think after that many kids the liklihood of future children being born prematurely is quite possible which is probably what was being referred to.

The child is consider special needs at this moment because there is monitoring that needs to be done she was born extremely premature and is at extreme health risks. Her life may be continually complicated by the factors that surround her premature birth. I wish her the best but the fact is that the mother had preeclampsia if I am correct? This could be a huge risk factor for other children. I think that if there was a gaurantee of another healthy baby to each is own but they have enough healthy and happy children they do not need to continue having babies.
* note to a bab born with a gential birth defect such has cleft lip or club foot can be considered special needs with out implying any "need" I know I have a special needs child.

What are you talking about?! Not every family has NINETEEN kids and one that almost died due to her parents being ignorant. Having one child with special needs and two or three other children is different to a family of 21.

Which of their children almost died because they were ignorant?

Happy Birthday Josie and many more to come. Total cutie although not diggin the fake pigtails. My niece was pretty bald until over a year old. Wide headbands with huge flowers or bows made her look like the girlie girl she was.

creepy hair, she'd be cute without that. i dont know why parents think they need to change their kids appearance to make them more attractive. (gwen stefani)

LOL I totally thought that was her hair as well....HAHAHAHA!!
What a cutie.
Happy Birthday Josie D! =)

She's adorable and I'm glad she's doing so well. The fake pigtails kind of make her look like a Who (Dr Seuss Who, I mean) to me!

I'm with everyone else- when I first saw the picture, I thought "Oh wow, she grew some hair already. Cute- she's got a pretty big forehead, though..." And then, on closer inspection, "Ohhhh. Yikes." Headband with fake ponytails = nooooooooooo. Glad she's doing okay, though :-)

I agree with the mom that said that she hopes that they're done. I say that about every family that has a special needs child. It must be very rough raising a special needs child. Yes, it's good to have siblings, but he or she desperately needs so much attention that their siblings are bound to be jealous. I have Cerebral Palsy and while I'm glad that I have a sibling, I know he was very jealous of me because of that. It evened out. There were (and still are) plenty of times when I'm jealous of him. I also say that once you're grandparents, you need to stop making babies. JMO on this.

I've never read that ANY of their children are special needs. Being a preemie doesn't automatically make a child special needs. And I don't believe that having a complicated delivery/birth means the parents are ignorant. If so there are certainly a lot of ignorant people out there - NOT.

I've seen these hairbands. They're for fun; not to be taken seriously. They remind me of the men's hats that had a fake ponytail on the back. Just for fun

So she got pregnant right after she gave birth to Jordyn? Thats so unfair to Jordyn because the whole year Michelle was focused on taking care of Josie.

Both my niece and nephew were preemies, maybe not that early but still they spent months in the hospital. They are two of the smartest kids I know. One has had straight A's since Kindergarten. They look like a loving, caring, and educated family, and unless you have walked in their shoes, keep your noses out of their business.
