Report: Penélope Cruz & Javier Bardem's Son Is Named Leo

Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem‘s newborn son is named Leo, according to Hollywood Reporter.

Reportedly, Spanish director and family friend Santiago Segura spilled the beans. “I know what you want and you don’t understand why they don’t come running to show off the baby and say, ‘Look, here’s Leo.’ You’re a bunch of busybodies,” Segura said when questioned by journalists why the couple shies away from the press.

Realizing his flub, Segura then said, “Yeah, Leo. I think so. That’s what I think I heard. But they haven’t said anything.”

According to Spanish news reports, the baby’s full name is Leo Encinas Cruz.

Although the couple have yet to officially announce the arrival of their son, reports state that Cruz gave birth at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles on January 22.

You know, celebrities make a lot of money and get a lot of perks for just being celebrities. Quite honestly you would think they could just release the name of their child since they have already released the fact that they are expecting. It’s kind of the deal you make when you accept all of the perks of being a celebrity and the big money paychecks and accolades of being in the world of Hollywood acting.

They shouldn’t treat their fans so shabbily. It’s fans who pay to see their movies and make them the multi-millionaires they are. They’d have some crappy little 9 to 5 otherwise.

You are sooo right Ariana! When someone becomes a celebrity, they have to know that there life is no longer private. I have always thought that if you let the fans see the new baby in a reasonable amount of time, that the curiousity would fade and go on to the next person.

Hang on a minute, the babies should not be for sale. Penelope and Javier do not owe their fans the right to any information, pictures, tidbits about their family. They are both talented movie actors not reality stars. People need to show respect and get some perspective.

Wow, do you people actually believe that because they are celebrities they OWE the public any information regarding their children?

Last time I checked, it was THEM who were famous – not their children. And they originally did not admit to being pregnant. They never officially announced it until pictures of a very pregnant Penelope were taken while she was filming Pirates of the Caribbean.

Let’s put it this way… if your boss demanded that you tell him/her the name of your child as well as pose for pictures.. do you OWE them because they pay your salary?

    No, no you do not.

Sad and disheartening that they didn’t deem their native country good enough for their son!

The kid will have 2 nationalities, what’s wrong with that? It’s very, very difficult to work and live in the US for non-citizens, they just gave him that option. Doesn’t mean they’re rejecting Spain.

Agreed! A lot of people do this, not just celebrities.
My sister’s (very well off) friend decided to give birth to both of her sons in the United States for this reason. Now they have dual citizenships, and it gives them more options for the future.

Diva Mommy, Bardem is the artistic surname of Javier. He took it from his mum, which is an actress too; mother and son are very close. But Javier legal surname is Encinas. In Spain, every children bears two surnames, one from the father and one from the mother. Women in Spain NEVER EVER took his husband name, it’s just the tradition here since ever, women never loose their birth surname.
I also would like to add that being an actor is a job like any other one; all this celebrity thing, yes, it’s marketing for selling pictures’ tickets, but I understand that an actor wants just to be known as a professional, and that’s it, his or her private persona is other thing. Actors are normal people (with a talent we must thank for, as we thank for great doctors, great writers etc), it would be wise to treat them like that. We can love their job in a movie, but it’s insane to idolize the real person behind the character. In Spain they think Ms Cruz and Ms Bardem are distant and altive, but I guess they do what they can to cope with all the intrusion in their lives. Being somehow in the showbiz, I know for a fact Ms Bardem is a nice, loving pal, loyal to his friends, which is some of the best things you can say about any human being.

agree 100%. Just look at Christian Bale. He just got the best attitude in Hollywood. He doesnt want to be seen as Christian Bale, with all that stuff going around in his life. In a movie, he wants to be seen as the character hes playing. Because thats his job. Its so true, and totally right (if we take a look at his movies).

Leonardo would have been a great alternative (spanish/italian origin).
And I think they’re doing the right thing. They play in movies!! Why should any actor/actress talk about private things? Just because we got some attention-whores like angelina and brad, who are selling their kids and their relationship out, someone who wont talk about his/her private life is ignorant? Stupid Shit. And besides… can anyone image how it feels, when adult men are screaming your kids name so they can get some nice paparazzi-shots? No? Thought so.
