The cat’s out of the bag! In a recent interview, David Furnish let it slip that songstress Lady Gaga is to be named Godmother to his 2-month-old son!
When asked to confirm the rumour, David – who welcomed baby boy Zachary with partner Sir Elton John on Christmas Day 2010 – told Macleans: “We haven’t publicly confirmed that yet but your sources are very good!”
He added, “I prefer not to comment on it because we are going to make a statement about Godparents later on.”
Elton and Gaga became friends after performing together at last year’s Grammy Awards, while David has publicly praised the messages she portrays through her work:
She’s all about inclusiveness and tolerance. She believes that you can be whoever you want to be and that we don’t have to live in a world of conformity and that we can all benefit from individuality. That’s the best message in the world. The freedom to be who you are, do what you want and love who you want to love.
The 48-year-old film producer believes that this message of Gaga’s is exactly what will make her a wonderful role model for his son: “Elton and I don’t talk about what we hope Zachary grow up to be – musician, doctor or whatever. We just hope he grows up to be happy and that he’s able to do what he wants to do in life and has the freedom to take whatever path.”
As for themselves, David and Elton are no strangers to Godparent game: David is Godfather to Elizabeth Hurley’s son Damian, 8, while Elton is Godfather to 11-year-old Brooklyn and 8-year-old Romeo, sons of David and Victoria Beckham.
