Lincoln Lawyer star Matthew McConaughey‘s life has changed since becoming a dad. But in an interview with Access Hollywood, the actor reveals that fatherhood hasn’t put a damper on his adventurous spirit, which seems to be rubbing off on his 14-month-old daughter, Vida.
“I’ve got more to live for now, that’s for sure!” the actor told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover on Tuesday (March 15). “Obviously, you stop living as much for ‘me’ and living for ‘we.’ Everything I’m doing, my kids are doing with me… every move I make has to do with them.
And now they’re my epic,” Matthew continued. “I make films, but that’s my… they’re my epic.”
That “epic” still includes the action and adventure that Matthew’s been known for over the years, despite some people’s perception that the fun and games all stop when you become a parent.
“I haven’t pulled back on my sense of adventure…a lot of people say, ‘You have children, you have a family, boy, the life you had comes to a screeching halt,’ and you start over,” said the actor. “That has not been true for me, and a lot of that is testament to Camila and myself and my family and how we go about our life.”
And little Vida seems to be following in her father’s footsteps…
“Vida really likes to eat dirt,” the proud papa said with a laugh. “Vida’s a little more rough and tumble and she’s the young lady.”
But when things get too rough for Vida or her older brother, Levi, 2, Matthew said that he and his longtime partner, Camila Alves, try to keep things low-key.
“We don’t make a big deal about falling down,” explained McConaughey. “Our medicine, that they’ve learned, is rub it… whatever it is, rub it!”
