Kid Rock won’t be attending the upcoming Academy of Country Music Awards, but with good reason. Believe it or not, the rocker is getting ready to send his son, Robert Ritchie, Jr., 17, off to college, and he’s planning on being a part of all the high school graduation festivities.
“I’m trying to make sure that I’m there for all the fun events that come up at the end of the school year,” Rock tells Access Hollywood.
But don’t think for a second that having a son who’s heading to college is making “The Kid” feel old.
“I feel young,” says the Cowboy singer. “I’m 40, my kid is going to be 18 in June and that’s not really the case with all the other parents. At a time I guess when I should be feeling old, I really in a sense feel kind of young, because I really am the youngest one with the longest hair.”
Ritchie will be attending Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee this fall.
His mother, Kelley South Russell, was Rock’s high school girlfriend. The song, Black Chick, White Guy, is loosely based on the couple’s turbulent relationship.
