Hats off to Kate Winslet!
The Academy award winning actress and mom to Mia, 10, and Joe, 7, is getting some of her celeb pals together to help raise money and awareness for autism in a new book titled, The Golden Hat.
The book was inspired by the HBO documentary narrated by Kate, A Mother’s Courage: Talking Back To Autism.
A Mother’s Courage tells the story of a young Icelandic boy, Keli Ericsdottir, who suffered from severe non-verbal autism, and eventually was able to not only communicate, but to compose beautiful poems; one of which describes a magical hat that allows an autistic boy to interact with others.
In Winslet’s book, the actress details her relationship with the Ericsdottir family, tells the stories of many other children with autism, and presents a number of Keli’s poems.
The book will also include a collection of self-portrait photos from celebrities like Ben Stiller, Naomi Watts, Ricky Gervais, Meryl Streep, and Julianne Moore, each wearing the same “magic hat” and sharing what their first words would be if they were suddenly able to speak after spending years locked in silence.
The Golden Hat will be released later this year by Simon & Schuster. Proceeds from the book’s sales will benefit Winslet’s charity, The Golden Hat Foundation.
