Big congratulations are in order for actress Mariska Hargitay, who is the proud new mom of daughter Amaya Josephine!
The 47-year-old Law and Order: SVU star and her husband Peter Hermann shared the adoption news with People today, saying that baby Amaya was born in the United States about a week ago.
“I’m deliriously happy,” Mariska gushes. “From the minute she was born, she was just surprisingly alert and so full of love.”
Talking a bit about their decision to adopt, the Emmy-winning moms says, “We were considering both international and domestic adoption and we’re thrilled that this is the way our prayers were answered. We talked a lot about mixed-race adoptions, and we are very excited that we are now a multi-racial family. We’re just so happy she’s here.”
As for new big brother August, 4, Mariska reveals, “He is over the moon. He calls her his baby because he says the whole thing was his idea. He always talks about how he’s going to protect her. He’s going to be a great big brother.”
