Natalie Portman Gives In To Her Pregnancy Cravings

Oscar-winning mom-to-be Natalie Portman, 29, became a vegan in 2009 after reading Jonathan Safran Foer‘s Eating Animals. But when it comes to feeding her bump, the Your Highness star says there’s just no fighting those pregnancy cravings – even if it means eating eggs.

“I actually went back to being vegetarian when I became pregnant, just because I felt like I wanted that stuff,” Natalie said in a phone interview with the Q100 Bert Show. “I was listening to my body to have eggs and dairy and that sort of stuff.

“I know there are people who do stay vegan,”she added, “but I think you have to be careful, watch your iron levels and your B12 levels and supplement those if there are things you might be low in in your diet.”

Vitamins aside; the star’s decision to switch to vegetarianism could be summed up in two words…baked goods!

“If you’re not eating eggs, then you can’t have cookies or cake from regular bakeries, which can become a problem when that’s all you want to eat,” Portman said with a laugh. “I actually wanted eggs at the beginning and then they grossed me out after awhile.”

Rumors have surfaced that Natalie and fiance Benjamin Millepied are having a boy, but according the actress, that’s news to her!

In the interview, Portman revealed that she has no plans to find out the sex of the baby, either.

“People can say a lot of things and they have a 50 percent chance of being right,” she laughed. “I’m Jewish and I think in Judaism, there’s a lot of superstition around not doing too much before the baby comes.”

Natalie and Benjamin’s baby is due this summer.

She went back to being a vegetarian because she was harming her darn baby by denying it the proper nutrients such as dairy and protein products so that it will be a healty baby when its born.

Not true at all. You are quoting a bunch of old wives’ tales. Many vegan women give birth to perfectly healthy babies without all of the chemicals, steroids and antibiotics that are given to animals that we ultimately ingest through milk, eggs, meat, etc.. That is what is bad for the baby! Read up on the benefits of veganism … there are actual studies, statistics and facts. It’s interesting and educational.
