Jodie Sweetin has come a long way since her days battling addictions to alcohol and meth; something she struggled with for more than ten years. And though the former Full House actress, 29, has been very public about her history of drug abuse, having documented it in her 2009 memoir, unSweetined, Jodie isn’t in any rush to share that part of her life with her two daughters, Beatrix, 8 months, and Zoie, 3.
“[My struggles are] pretty much in the past,” Jodie tells People. “Hopefully, it’ll never be anything my kids have to be a part of.
I wish I hadn’t gone through that, but I did,” adds Sweetin.
Though she says she would never “sit down and talk to my kids about it preemptively or anything,” Jodie refuses to lie to her girls about her past.
“I’ve been really open about what I’ve gone through in general, so if they ask me about it, I’ll be open with them, too,” says the actress. “I don’t think there’s any reason to hide it. It’s nothing I’m ashamed of. But just like with various people my own age, I’m not just going to go out of my way to talk about it with my kids.”
For now, Jodie’s focusing on getting back into acting, and enjoying life with her daughters and fiance Morty Coyle.
Sweetin remains on friendly terms with Zoie’s father, ex-husband, Cody Herpin, with whom she shares equal custody.
As for whether or not she’ll be adding any more children to her happy family…
“I think I’m done having kids,” says Jodie. “If I had more, it would be in a few years from now, but I think I’m good.”
