A lot has happened since April 2010 when Jillian Michaels first announced her adoption desires. The 37-year-old celebrity trainer, who chatted with Access Hollywood in February about her plans to adopt a child from Africa, has now revealed new information about her journey into motherhood:
“My dossier, which is your paperwork portfolio, is in to the Democratic Republic of the Congo,” she tells Us. “So the paperwork is done, and now it’s just a waiting game.”
It could be six months, twelve months; it could be two years. Or, it could be tomorrow! They call you and they say, ‘Oh, we have your referral,’ which is essentially the child they match you up with, and you go overseas and you get him or her.
Last spring the super tough trainer told Women’s Health magazine about her eagerness to become a mom, but made it clear that she wouldn’t become pregnant herself.
“I can’t handle doing that to my body,” she explained, adding that “when you rescue something, it’s like rescuing a part of yourself”.
In April, Jillian told Shape magazine about the moment she realized she wanted to be a mother: “While filming Losing It last year, I lived with these amazing kids. It was such a powerful experience for me. I recognized that I have a giant hole in my life, and it was the deciding factor for me to adopt a child.”
Before baby arrives, Jillian will be keeping busy with her new contract as a expert panelist on The Doctors.
