Robert De Niro & Family: Boating In Cannes

Robert De Niro, his wife Grace Hightower, and their 13-year-old son Elliot were spotted leaving the Eden Roc hotel in Antibes, France on Sunday (May 15). The family traveled down steps to board a small boat.

They’re in the south of France because the 67-year-old actor is the lead juror of the movie judging panel at the 64th Cannes International Film Festival.

De Niro has to judge 20 films in 10 days but recently told CBS News he doesn’t mind.

He said, “It’s a bit of a vacation. I can focus on the films and not have the distractions I normally would have in my everyday life.”

Just curious, is their son autistic or developmentally delayed? A 13-year-old is rather big to have people helping him into a raft. And his facial expression seem like thank of a kid that might be delayed in some way. Maybe he’s just coddled a lot and had the sun in his eyes? But I’m getting the idea that he’s delayed.

Does it matter?….I mean does everyone has to put their child’s developmental issues out there?

It obviously mattered enough to you to ask a question that is really none of your business.

These are celebrities. Their lives are put out on display in tons of different ways. How is this any different? Just because you all find having an autistic relative something worth hiding and shameful doesn’t mean everyone else. does. Get over yourselves.

wow I never knew his son was mixed! Good looking kid!

And adults get helped into boats and rafts too. It’s sort of better then falling in!

all of his children are “mixed.”

and Robert is about 3 times his own kid’s age and didn’t get help in the raft. let’s not be too silly.

LOL sorry I wasn’t tryin to get completely technical with the term. Just that I never knew what his wife or children looked like.

And as far as the boat goes…Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt I’ve all seen get a helping hand into a boat! He’s 13 and even some 13 yr olds are not quite fond of boats and water! Let’s not get “silly” and assume by getting a helping hand implies something may possibly be wrong with him!

No offense, but I was thinking the same thing as the first anonymous poster did when I clicked on the pictures. We’re just so used to the media giving us so much information on celebrities lives that it’s surprising we haven’t heard anything about his son. Something must be wrong to have not 1, but 3 people trying to help a 13 year old into a raft.

He could very well be blind …notice how his hand is being held and he’s 13…

I have to concur with the original poster. Most often you can tell at a glance with some people that something is “off”, be it developmentally delayed, autistic, Asperger’s, etc. Sometimes there is pronounced facial asymmetry, or monotone speech patterns, or just something odd about the way they move. There are a few in my family dealing with these conditions, and most people pick up on it immediately even though the signs are quite subtle. Also, Deniro’s son is purportedly one of the reasons he feels so close to the subject matter dealt with in The Silver Linings Playbook.
