Melissa Rycroft & Tye Strickland’s “Weird” Date Nights

Melissa Rycroft & Tye Strickland's "Weird" Date Nights

It’s been five months since they welcomed their darling daughter Ava into the world, but for Melissa Rycroft and hubby Tye Strickland, it’s still difficult being away from the little one.

“It’s weird that we’re having a date night out and we don’t have our daughter with us,” the former Bachelor contestant tells Us at Thursday’s HTC EVO 3D launch party in West Hollywood.

“We know she’s in really good hands,” explains Melissa, adding, “it’s just weird to be here.”

They may need to adjust to the time away, but Rycroft’s confident that there’s nothing she and Tye can’t tackle together.

“I am a firm believer that if your marriage can survive a newborn, you can survive pretty much anything!” Melissa tells the magazine. “It’s trying, it’s tough, it’s hard [to have a child]. You are operating on very little sleep with very little patience, but at the end of the day, it’s [about] teamwork. You’ve got to do it together.”

As for baby Ava, she’s growing more and more every day.

“She is talking all the time [and] sleeping through the night. These are big milestones for us,” says Rycroft. “[And] she is a breath away from getting a tooth!

She’s at the point now where she really recognizes us so when we walk in the room and she hears our voice she’ll turn and smile,” the new mom gushes. “It’s the best feeling in the world!”

And another reason to go out sans baby every once in a while — those wonderful smiles waiting for you when you walk in the door!

It has been such a treat to not have Melissa on my TV for the past few months. Heres hoping she continues to be a stay-at-home mom and far, far, away from the television cameras.
