Cheryl Hines' Mission To Improve LA's Inner-City Schools

Known for her hilarious role on TV's Curb Your Enthusiasm, Cheryl Hines and her adorable daughter Catherine, 7, grace the cover of Scholastic Parent & Child's September issue. The cover story is focused on "Back to School" and Cheryl's mission to improve L.A.’s inner-city schools.

On promoting school pride and cleaning up the schools: “It gives me a good feeling to look around,” Cheryl says of the vibrant blue, green, and purple candy-colored walls and pretty murals she and friends helped paint. “You see books everywhere. Working on these schools, I feel a spiritual connection to other people, parents, kids, even ideas. The thought that you can put something out there and have a shared experience with someone else is so positive.”

On feedback from the students: "A 9-year-old boy came in, and I asked him, ‘How do you like the school?’ He said, ‘I like coming to here now, because I feel like someone cares.’ And it struck me: How did these kids feel before when they came to a rundown school every day? That says, ‘We don’t care about you.’”

On her 'discipline defeat': "My daughter thinks it's funny when I get mad. I guess I've created a monster [laughs]."

On her dream co-star: "I've already lived my dream. Larry David is the best co-star a girl can have. Seems unlikely but true. He is very fun, smart and funny.”
