Sarah Jessica Parker On Motherhood, Third ‘Sex And The City’ Movie

Sarah Jessica Parker On Motherhood, Third 'Sex And The City' Movie

In this Sunday’s issue of PARADE, Sarah Jessica Parker, who stars in the upcoming flick I Don’t Know How She Does It, opens up about motherhood and her three kids: son James Wilkie, 8, and 2-year-old twin daughters, Tabitha and Loretta. And hold onto your Manolo Blahniks, it sounds like a third Sex and the City movie is in the works!

On James Wilkie wanting to be an actor and eager to start auditioning: “I don’t want him to do it until after he goes to college: But part of me thinks maybe it’s better if he knows the truth now about how hard it is to be a working actor. I don’t know that he grasps what it took to get us here.”

On the difficulty of balancing career and motherhood: “We’ve had two occasions recently where both Matthew and I were working, and it was so hard on the kids. Especially James Wilkie, because he can really articulate how he feels about our absence. On the other hand, there are big chunks of time when we’re home a lot more than conventionally working parents. So you hope to make up for it.”

On fraternal twins Loretta and Tabitha: “They’re talking, they’re running, they need me. Loretta is deeply inquisitive: ‘Do you see that, do you hear that, Mama?’ She constantly checks that we are connecting with her.” Her sister is the family princess: “Tabitha does not give; she receives.”

On using babysitters, but not live-in help: “We love closing the door and having the only people in the house be our three children and us. It’s such a good feeling to know that we’re competent and capable and that it’s private.”

On any chance for a third Sex and the City movie: “There is. I know what the story is. It’s a small story, but I think it should be told. The question is, what’s the right time to tell it?”

SJP is such a survivor in the biz. I really admire that she prefers hands-on to raising her younglings and not handing it off to handlers and nannies. I mean, why have kids at all if you don’t want to enjoy time with them?

I love SJP, too. I love to see her bringing her son, who is totally precious, to school…. but….

SJP shoots movies, does commercials, works for Halston, creates fragrances and designs clothing. How much time do you *really* think she spends caring for her kids (and all that that entails)?

She also spent nine straight weeks away from her entire family (including two newborns) to shoot Sex & the City. So really, she’s no different than every other celebrity.

      Again, I love her, but let’s not pretend that she’s a 24/7/365 hands-on mom.

Are you kidding me? She has help in her house ALL DAY. Regardless of whether they’re home or not.

a 3rd SATC? Don’t get me wrong I’m a HUGE fan; loved the show; say the movies; but how many movies are they gonna have? Plus now the prequel series too?

Oh god, heaven forbid they make a 3rd SATC movie. I absolutely love the show, and the first movie was actually quite good, but the second one? Awful! Bordering on unwatchable! Hopefully this one is better :S
Regardless, I love Sarah Jessica Parker; she seems like a wonderful mother, and so grounded and intelligent. Her kids all sound very sweet and I love that they call James Wilkie by both names :)
