Idris Elba: I'm Grateful For My Daughter's Mother

He’s taken on roles in blockbuster films and Emmy-nominated shows, but Luther‘s Idris Elba knows that his career wouldn’t be the success that it is now without the help of one very special lady — the mother of his 9-year-old daughter, ex-wife Dormowa Sherma.

“I’m grateful to my ex-wife, [Isan‘s] mother, and I’m grateful I get to live my dream,” Elba tells Essence. “At the same time, I miss things, which I regret.”

Both Idris and Dormowa live in Atlanta, GA, where they share custody of their daughter, though Elba splits his time between the ATL and his native Britain.

I don’t know how I’d manage to be on seven flights a month and still get her to school.”

What he does manage to do is make the ladies swoon, but there’s only one girl who’s got Elba wrapped around her finger, and that’s Isan.

“My daughter’s with me now for three weeks and I love it; I absolutely love it,” Idris tells the magazine.

His ex-wife and mother of Isan is Kim Elba, not Dormwa Sherman.

Let’s face it, if he were a woman, people would go ape-sh*t over her abandoning her child for her career. So sad that men still get a pass, and can leave the majority of the child-rearing to the mother.

That little girl is lucky to have a mother who’s willing to shoulder the responsibility.
