Johnny Depp: "It's Almost Impossible To Be Away" From My Family

Johnny Depp has been talking about his family while promoting his new film The Rum Diary. He recently told Entertainment Tonight that he can't be without them too long. When he had to film in Puerto Rico, he had Vanessa Paradis and their two children, Lily-Rose, 12, and Jack, 9, stay with him.

He said, "I had the family down there for a couple of months. As you well know, it's almost impossible to be away from them for too long a period. You start to go a little sideways."

The actor added that he still enjoys taking his kids to school, even though they are growing out of it.

It's one of the greatest things I get to do as a dad - see that transformation from a kid to an independent kid. They used to be like, 'Walk me in, take me into the school', and now it's, 'Stay in the car. Here's your hug, now scoot, Dad!'"

With his daughter reaching her teen years, how does he feel about her dating and greeting a boy at the door?

"I'll probably be standing there with a tire iron," he told E! News. "Yeah, probably there'll be a bottle of rum in my left hand and a tire iron in the right hand."

Being one of Hollywood's highest-paid actors, he's going to keep collecting the paychecks.

In the November issue of Vanity Fair he shared, "Basically, if they’re going to pay me the stupid money right now, I’m going to take it. I have to. I mean, it’s not for me. Do you know what I mean? At this point, it’s for my kids. It’s ridiculous, yeah, yeah. But ultimately is it for me? No. No. It’s for the kids.”
