Giuliana Rancic 'Not Gonna Give Up' On Having A Baby Despite Shocking Cancer Diagnosis

When E! News host Giuliana Rancic appeared on The Today Show Monday morning (October 17), fans of the reality star expected to hear that she and husband Bill Rancic were finally expecting the baby they've been trying to conceive for years now. But Rancic shocked the world when she instead announced that she has "early stage breast cancer;" a discovery her doctors made in August as she was prepping for her third attempt at IVF.

With no history of the disease in her family, Giuliana admits that she "wasn't prepared to get a mammogram until I was 40 years old," adding "I never in my wildest dreams expected anything to be wrong." But upon her doctor's insistence (pregnancy hormones could "accelerate the cancer"), Rancic, 37, had the mammogram, not at all anticipating the phone call that she received from the hospital days later.

Giuliana recalls that she immediately began "sobbing...It was like the world just crashed around me."

Despite the diagnosis, Rancic assures fans, "I will be okay, because I found it early. I'm doing surgery this coming week, and then I go to radiation for six and a half weeks."

Giuliana's husband, Bill, 40, has been by her side throughout this emotional ordeal.

"Bill is unbelievable," says Rancic. "He let's me cry when I want to cry. He just lets me feel what I want to feel."

And after dealing with her own health, Giuliana still intends to go through with her IVF treatment, telling Today:

I'm not gonna give up. That baby will have saved my life. There's some master plan. Now I know that [God] was looking out for me."

"I think a lot of us think we're invincible," says Rancic, urging all women to get screened for breast cancer. "We have to start putting ourselves on the to do list."

This is so sad; hope she'll pull through as it was caught in the early stages.
Best of luck, Guiliana

How very sad. I didn't know pregnancy hormones accelerate cancer. I feel for her and her family.

Am I the only one that thinks fertility treatments caused her cancer since it doesn't run in her family?

Kim, only about 5-10% of breast cancer cases are heriditary in nature, so not at all surprising that she could have cancer if it does not run in her family. Lots of studies have been done looking at potential link between fertility drugs and cancer and the results are not consistent (some show a link, many do not).

@Kim Callus I totally agree with you. I don't know how G. can say she is going to go on an get more IVF. I am very suscpicious of fertility treatments. My aunt used them in the early 70s and while she got pregnant twice, she developed an aggressive form of breast cancer (no family history) and unfortunaltey died in her mid-40s. No way in hell would I do IVF. I think G. needs to become of skeptical of the hormones she has been putting in her body after this!

Is it wrong that the first thing I thought when I read this was, "They must have both thought 'We've got our Sweeps storyline!!!' when they heard the news."

Probably.

Oh dear, how sad, never mind. Guess those implants may not have been kind to you afterall. Something about these two (G & B) that irritate the heck out of me. Perhaps it is because she comes across as being the world's biggest b----. As for the cancer diagnosis - I always had a hunch she wouldn't be around by age 40. Seems this assumption (I am a fortune teller) may in fact be right on the mark. Good job.

Beau,
What an awful human being are you, I take that back, you are a monster, your family, friends and God, ( that is if you even believe) must be soooo proud of the dispicable thing that you are!

YOU HAVE A BLESSED LIFE, REMEMBER ,
KARMA IS A BEEACH, WHAT GOES AROUND
COMES AROUND!

That's a horrible thing to say. She is like many woman going through the stress of attempting to have a baby. I think you are the world's biggest b---- for saying something like that about someone fighting for their life. Fortune teller, huh? When you look at your future do you ever see that karma bites you in the a-- for making assumptions about people that you don't personally know? I can't even begin to explain how your comment made me feel. What a b----you are for attacking someone when they are at their lowest!!!!!

Fortune teller, huh? Does your future show you that karma will bite you in the a-- for attacking someone when they are at their lowest? Walk a mile in her shoes and then tell me if you might be a little bitchy. Trying to have a baby to make their family complete and now fighting for her life, you are the b---- for assuming that you know someone from what you see on tv. You are a despicable person and even though you make me sick at my stomach, I wouldn't even wish what Guiliana is going through on you!!! Of course Guiliana and Bill are in my prayers and I've decided to add you to my list because obviously you don't have a relationship with God because you would never feel this way about another human being if you did!!!!

You are in my prayers Giuliana, I wish you a speedy recovery.

Guilianna, I must say I was so shocked to hear you have breast cancer!!
My daughter was diagnosed in March. She is 38 and is a single mother of three.
The cancer was in her left breast and was undetected by self examination. She had been lactating since my youngest grandson was born. Through the years, the doctor keep an eye on things. Well in March, she saw something that was not normal and sent her for a mammogram immediately, which to me, saved my daughters life. After having a lumpectomy, Pre cancer cells we're still evident. After having more surgery to remove marginal tissue, the results were the same as before. She ended up having a total mastectomy in June because she still had pre cancer cells. Thankfully, she is handling it all so well. One more chemo treatment to go. I thank God everyday that, although she lost both breasts, that she is still here. God Bless you Guilianna. Be strong and know you are in everyone's thoughts and prayers.
